Abels has acted for Housing Associations since about 1925. We therefore have many years of experience in dealing with all aspects of social housing law, but in particular are frequently acting for Housing Associations in connection with site acquisition and development, shared ownership schemes and Homebuy and the acquisition of existing properties from individuals or developers. More recently, we have been acting for one large Housing Association in connection with the Government Mortgage Rescue Scheme which involves the acquisition of a high volume of properties from Home Owners with substantial mortgage arrears and the subsequent grant of an Assured Shorthold Tenancy.

We also assist Housing Associations in the mortgaging of their stock to leading banks and building societies, preparing certificates of title and other support in multi-million pound transactions.

The firm is also able to provide litigation support to Housing Associations including proceedings for recovery of rent arrears, possession proceedings, nuisance claims, applications for anti-social behaviour orders and general housing management support.
